As you guys are wondering about a movie equivalent to vinyl, maybe digital home video projectors could fill that role. The black goo in the 1966 flashback is basically the kind of sensual-deprivation experiments in liquid tanks (where you can breath inside those body-warm special-solution liquids), like in the Ken Russell film, "Altered States" (1980). As for Barry's alienesque look after his transformation, Panos says he specifically harkened back to the German Expressionist silent film "Nosferatu" (1922), as Barry's disfiguring horror trip back in 1966 has basically rendered him a paranoid control freak of a "psychic vampire" who wants to harvest Elena's psychic powers in order to dominate people with those powers. However, not only may one also see a faint echo of "THX 1138" in Barry's alien look, but most of all, the scene in the bathroom where he takes off his "appliances" and then presents himself to his wife Rosemary reminds me of nothing so much as of a similar transformation scene in Nicolas Roeg's "The Man who Fell to Earth" (1976), where David Bowie as the alien Thomas Jerome Newton removes his appliances to reveal his true alien self to his human GF Mary-Lou. As for Barry's naughty notebook, that's actually a real-life artifact that Panos is using in the movie. I've seen a review of BtBR before where they detailled the notebook, its creator, and its history outside of the movie. It was something of a pop-cultural cult item from an actual occult, esoterical cult that's actually been published a few decades ago, a bit like the Necronomicon or the Voynich manuscript, and it was created and published by this guru that's a bit like Jeremiah from Panos's second movie "Mandy".

I lived on NIN from 1994-2008 after that my fandom died down. I saw him on 2 tours, Reznor will always be in my top 5 inspirations/beloved music artist. My friend in high school had Pretty Hate Machine, and Broken which I borrowed in 1994 cause I had bought The Downward Sprial, and I was HOOKED! I loved the Fragile, With Teeth, Year Zero, The Slip, I suffer from depression and his music always was a soundtrack to the times when I was dealing with some shit but I’m order and have persevered. But yeah I’m rambling, beautiful artist I’m glad I was there at the height and witnessed the good years.

The scene with the bandits in the building is my favorite in the movie, hands down. The suits these men wear - a mix of Vietnam surplus, commercial military, hunting and personal gear, along with the weapons they carry - knives and bayonets, a chain, a graphite two-piece bo staff that screws in the middle, bows and crossbows, look not just scary and original, but REALISTIC. It really looks like something that a band of bandits in a post-apocalyptic setting would wear. For example, one of the guys, the one Gibson throws to the ground and then snaps his neck, is wearing a school/tourist-type red backpack, dirtied up to give it sort of a semi-camouflaged look. That red color is not something a soldier would be equipped with. He also wears a dark heather t-shirt - a color that is not and has never been military-issue. This guy might as well have found half of his clothing and gear in the garbage, and he's working with what he has. The makeup is also incredibly good - it reminds me of the bum in Mulholland Drive. You can't tell if these guys are wearing war paint, are simply filthy, or are suffering from necrosis, leprosy and all kinds of skin conditions. Or if it's a mix of any of those three. It really stayed with me, and I became...inspired, to do something of a project. I want to find the kind of gear these guys use and make, what's basically a fan-made imitation of these characters, the design of each and every different one - kind of like cosplay, but with much more attention to minuscule detail and a lot less leeway. And here is where I would like to ask you for your help. I've re-watched the scene in the final movie a good 1000+ times. I've paused at every second, slowed it down, made screenshots. But you can only use the scene so much as a reference. I tried finding photos of prop suits - nothing. I tried finding behind the scenes photos, where there's a better look at the characters' suits, but to no avail. At least, none of the bandits. Most of them were stills of Gibson, Nady and Fender, a few of them of Fender's pirates. And yet, I see that somehow, and I haven't the slightest idea how, you were able to find some - like the one at 49:49 I would really appreciate it if you could send me this photo and any other photos of this scene, with these characters (like the one with the Chain Bandit at 49:37 or the one at 34:14 where Gibson fights the bandit he took the ball from, whom I've nicknamed "Bully Bandit", and the guy who spots Nady from the building (whom I call "Sentry Bandit" - he just doesn't have his cap on in that scene), as none of these guys have names or callsigns to differentiate them by). If you happen to have a better quality version of the deleted scene with the bandits perched over the kid and his mother, please, do send me that, too, as there are some bandits there that don't appear in the final movie - such as a guy with a white mask, wearing pilot goggles and a guy with...what appear to be dreadlocks. I really, really need better reference images. Thank you in advance. Happy New Year!

Score on the clear-smoke variant! I thought the "bring her back" skip was intentional. - Dave

I'm jealous of that blood variant.

I'm not super-sure. I live in Minnesota, and I pre-ordered it with the "Dance of The Clairvoyants" 7" single through pearljam.com. I hope that helps. - Dave

This site seems to have some - genius.com/albums/Trust-obey/Fear-and-bullets. The vinyl doesn't come with the lyrics, but the digital edition @ johnbergin.bandcamp.com/album/fear-and-bullets-1998-edition-remastered comes with a nice PDF with art and lyrics. Hope this helps! - Dave

Do you think this is a better game compared to TOM? I know is a better theme and that R2 and is more exciting, but for a casual player isnt it this game too difficult? (And maybe TOM is better because of that?) Thanks!

The Fragile is SUCH an immaculate album!!! It’s like a soundtrack or something. It progresses perfectly and every moment is amazing. Probably my favorite NIN and in my top 10 of favorite all time albums.

I did not notice the 1981 werewolf trend. Rise of serial killer culture maybe?

Maybe. Certainly was something in the zeitgeist about werewolves at that time. Thanks for watching! - Dave
